Bairstow and Root led England to win the fifth test and draw the series
England won the fifth test by chasing the huge target of 378 with 7 wickets in hand. This is the highest target ever chased by England in a test match and this was the first time when India lost a test match while defending 350+ in fourth innings.
Bairstow became man of the match for his outstanding performance in both innings, he made 106 in the first innings whereas 114 in the second one. The former England captain, Joe Root, continued his hot-red ball form and scored his 28th century in test cricket and 9th against India(the most by any batsman). Also, he has most tons in test cricket among the fab-four.
The two batters took only one session on day 5 to score the remaining runs. Joe Root was the top run-getter in the series with 737 runs at the stunning average of 105.28 and also was the player of the series. Bumrah took most number of wickets(23) in this series.
Now, the two teams will battle in the shorter format, which is going to begin from 7th of July with the first T20I.
