Sri Lanka won in a low scoring encounter, poor batting performance by the Aussies
In the 2nd ODI, Australia got beaten by Sri Lanka and after this win, series are on 1-1. It was another game, which got influenced by the rain and this time, the overs were reduced to 43.
1st innings:
Australia came with two changes including the debutant Matthew Kuhnemann. Aaron Finch won the toss and opted to field first. Australia begun well and took 2 wickets in powerplay, which included one wicket by the debutant. Then, Mendis and De Silva played small but effective innings. Mendis scored 36 and was the top scorer from Sri Lankan side. Shanaka played crucial knock of 34 and Sri Lanka made 220 before the rain interruption in 48th over. On a spin friendly surface, Cummins bowled really well and took 4 wickets and in other bowlers, the bowling of Kuhnemann and Maxwell was impressive, they both took 2 wickets each. Overs got reduced to 43 due to rain and for Australia, the target was 216.
2nd innings:
Australia did not make very good start as Finch went on only 14. After that, Smith and Warner made an important partnership before Warner got out by De Silva in 14th over. Warner scored 37 and was the highest scorer from Australian side and Smith made 28. Marnus and Head did not stay for long and Australia was losing continuous wickets. Maxwell did some efforts but he also got out on 30 runs in 25 deliveries. Karunaratne took 3 wickets and Chameera also performed well. Sri Lanka won the game by 26 runs and level the series.
The next ODI will be get played on 19th June in Colombo and both teams would look to take the lead by winning that match.
